CA Region Flip Book

Here are some basic tips on completing your California Region Flip Book. Be sure to take advantage of the suggestions on finding information in the Social Studies textbook, as well as the links at the bottom of this page. Remember, this is based on one region of California.


Due dates:

  1. Cover: drawn & neatly colored: due Monday, 10/16.

  2. Page 2 map & topic paragraph: due Wednesday, 10/18.

  3. Page 3 picture & topic paragraph: due Monday, 10/23.

  4. Page 4 picture & topic paragraph: due Wednesday, 10/25.

  5. Your travel poster on pp. 5 & 6: due Monday, 10/30.

  6. Final project is due Monday, 10/30. Each day late drops a letter grade, plus you miss out on the fun project we have planned in class.

Please make sure you include resources from your Social Studies text as your major source of information.

  1. Cover: Nicely detailed title of region, with artwork to match. All work is traced in fine-point marker and colored. Erase pencil marks.

  2. Page 2: Region map: only the region described is colored. Major features are listed (mountains, deserts, harbors, major cities). All work is traced in fine-point marker and colored. Erase pencil marks. Below: Write a topic paragraph describing the natural features of each region. Write 5-8 complete sentences, in neat printing, handwriting, or typed on a computer. Refer to the Social Studies textbook pp. 18-24 for info.

  3. Page 3: Climate & Vegetation: Draw a detailed illustration of the vegetation (plants) typical for the region.  All work is traced in fine-point marker and colored. Erase pencil marks. Below: Write a topic paragraph describing the climate (weather throughout the year) and vegetation (plants) of each region. Write 5-8 complete sentences, in neat printing or handwriting, or typed on a computer. Half the page includes a neat drawing. Refer to the Social Studies textbook pp. 28-33 for info.

  4. Page 4: Life in the Region: Draw a detailed illustration of how people live, work, or play in your region.  All work is traced in fine-point marker and colored. Erase pencil marks. Below: Write a topic paragraph describing the life in this region and how people live, work, and play. Write 5-8 complete sentences, in neat printing or handwriting, or typed on a computer. Half the page includes a neat drawing. Refer to the Social Studies textbook pp. 40-45 for info.

  5. Pages 5 & 6: Design your own Travel Poster (top and bottom) FOR THE REGION YOU’RE REPORTING ON. You may turn your flipbook in a vertical or horizontal position to draw your travel poster. You’re trying to persuade tourists to come and visit your region. Make it bold and bright! For some ideas from Google, CLICK HERE.
